The migration process involves three steps:
Note! some steps of this procedure refer to Outlook Express, not Outlook. Be sure you are in the correct application.

Moving your address book entries from Netscape to your Outlook contacts folder:

  1. In Netscape Communicator, on the Communicator menu, click Address Book.
  2. In Address Book, click Export on the File menu.
  3. A new window titled Export As will open. In the Save as type: box, make sure the type LDIF(*.ldif) is selected.
  4. In the File name: box, type

    C:\addresses.ldif

  5. Click the Save button and close Netscape Messenger and Communicator.
  6. Open Outlook Express.
  7. In Outlook Express, on the File menu, click Import, and then click Other Address Book.
  8. In the Address Book Import Tool box, click LDIF - LDAP Data Interchange Format, then click Import.
  9. A new window titled Open will appear. In the File name: box, type

     C:\address.ldif

    then click the Open button.
  10. Click OK when you receive the Address Book import process has completed prompt.
  11. Click Close on the widow titled Address Book Import Tool.
  12. In Outlook Express, on the File menu, click Import and Export.
  13. In the Import and Export Wizard, click Import Internet Mail and Addresses, and then click Next.
  14. In Select the Internet Mail application to import from, click to select Outlook Express 4.x, 5. Verify that Import Addresses is selected. Because Outlook Express does not import Netscape Messenger rules, this option can be ignored for the Outlook conversion. Click Next.
  15. In Select a destination for Imported Addresses, click Outlook Contacts Folder, and then click Finish.
Note: Distribution lists (groups of email addresses) do not import properly in to Outlook. After the import, you will need to re-add email addresses to your distribution lists.

Moving your local mail folders from Netscape to your Outlook mailbox:
  1. In Outlook Express, on the File menu, click Import, and then click Messages.
  2. In the Outlook Express Import Select Program box, click Netscape Communicator, and then click Next.
  3. In Location of Messages, click Browse to navigate to the Mail folder where Messenger stores messages. The following is the typical path:

    C:\Program Files\Netscape\Users\<User name>\Mail

where <User name> is the name of the Netscape profile to be imported.
  4. Click the Mail folder, click OK, and then click Next.
  5. In Select Folders, click to select All Folders, or click Selected Folders, and then click the individual folders to import. You can use the CTRL key to select multiple folders. Click Next.
  6. After the message conversion is completed, click Finish, and then quit Outlook Express.
  7. Open Outlook (not Outlook Express).
  8. In Outlook, on the File menu, click Import and Export.
  9. In the Import and Export Wizard, click Import Internet Mail and Addresses, and then click Next.
  10. In Select the Internet Mail application to import from, click to select Outlook Express 4.x, 5. Verify that Import Mail is selected. Because Outlook Express does not import Netscape Messenger rules, this option can be ignored for the Outlook conversion. Click Next.

Note: Mail transferred in this way goes in to the mailbox on the server and counts against your quota.

Moving your Netscape Calendar information to your Outlook calendar:
  1. Log into Netscape Calendar.
  2. Select File > Export Data from the top menu.
  3. In the Export Utility menu, select vCalendar.
  4. On the vCalendar Agenda tab, in the section labeled period: select the all push button. For the file name, enter a c: in front of the default file name that is given. Click OK.
  5. After you receive the message that the information was successfully exported, click OK.
  6. Open Outlook.
  7. In Outlook, select File > Import and Export Data.
  8. Select Import an iCalendar of vCalendar file (.vcs) and click Next.
  9. Navigate or browse to the location of your exported vCalendar file (c:\*.vcs). Select the file. Change the Files of Type: to vCalendar format (*.vcs).
  10. Outlook will then import all the exported data.

Note: This will successfully transfer all meetings from Netscape to Outlook; however, any Notes created in Netscape will be automatically converted into Meetings once imported into Outlook 2000.
